The Full Review
The first impression is that this is a serious laptop briefcase for a businesswoman who is a frequent traveler and who has a lot of items
they want to carry with them.
This case is clearly constructed with fashion and durability in mind. Just looking at the stitching, the fabric and the
details brings the word quality to mind. Plus it is available in several colors, so there is bound to be one to fit every woman's
preference and fashion sense.
The front of the bag offers a locking pocket that would be a good place for various files and important papers. The lock is a basic
lock and obviously not meant to offer heavy security, but just an extra piece of mind. For moderate level of protection it is
certainly better than nothing.
The case's main compartment is separated into several sections. The first slot in this section offers several organizational features,
including a business card holder, a slot for a thin cell phone or laptop power cable, a couple of pen holders, and another pocket.
Just behind that section in the main compartment is a thin, zip-top area that securely holds important documents or other items. It is
padded so could potentially hold breakables as well.
Next is the laptop sleeve. This sleeve sits in the main compartment, but is easily be removed to provide much more storage space for the
times you are carrying your laptop. On the front side of the sleeve there are four small, open-top pockets for miscellaneous items. The laptop compartment is well padded with fleece lining on all sides. As the sleeve
is open on top -- but covered by the bag's top zipper -- it makes for easy retrieval of your notebook, which is especially nice when
going through airport security.
The back wall of the main compartment has a zippered pocket, but it seems more an afterthought as it is very tight and would only hold the
thinnest of items, such as a few pieces of paper or a notepad.
A nice feature is that the wheels and telescoping handle can be removed entirety from the main case via three zippers. The case can then
be carried and used separately from the wheeled portion of the case. There are both pluses and a minuses with this feature.
Having the wheels is an obvious plus for traveling, or for anyone that does not like to carry their laptop case/breifcase everywhere in their
hands or on their shoulder. The downside is that the case itself is a bit on the heavy side, so without the wheels, and especially if
loaded with a laptop and other items, can be pretty heavy. Getting the case unzipped takes a bit of work at first, but re-attaching it is
pretty simple.
There are nice handles on the top of the case, and also a shoulder strap. However, fashion seems to take precedent over
comfort as the shoulder strap is also stiff leather with only a small extra pad where it rests on your shoulder.
When the case is detached from the wheel assembly, you gain acess to another pocket on the back side of the case, which is an ideal place for
housing magazines, newspapers, or other paper items that you wish to access easily.
The wheel assembly covers the entirety of the bottom of the bag, which is critical to the ultimate longevity of the case, as the
leather bottom would not do well if exposed when being wheeled around. This was a smart design choice by McKlein.
Also, the telescoping handle is adjustable and comes up more than three feet, making it easy to tow the case for just about anyone,
regardless of their height.
Lastly, each case comes with a rain and snow cover which is hidden between the case and the wheels. This provides protection from the
elements when you are caught in inclement weather.
Overall this case seems a smart choice for women who are seeking a fashion-forward laptop case with wheels for easy toting. If you are
not looking for a wheeled offering, there are other women's fashion computer bags that are a bit lighter, yet
still offer fashionable choices. Also most leather computer
bags have some amount of fashion sense built in. But if fashion, function and wheeled portability are important considerations, the
McKlein W Series Glen Ellyn Leather Detachable-Wheeled Ladies Case could be the right choice for you.
